Gurushots questions

I’ve been receiving a lot of questions from people asking for advice on Gurushots, so I thought I’d make things easier for everyone and ask you to submit your questions here.

When I have time and a few questions I’ll write a blog post and give you the answers to those I am able to answer. Obviously I won’t be able to answer some questions, but I’ll do my best.

So ask away, leave your questions in the comment section below.

As a guru, what are your top 5 criteria for a photo when you are looking for a guru pick?

I’m curious to how you all pick the various challeges you come up with. I always look forward to seeing what you will come up with next. Do you feel that after a while it becomes redundant (eg. Portraits, landscapes, etc) and hard to think of new topics?

I’m curious to know how the gurus can ensure they really are picking the best shots for their choices? the Red contest currently has 15,888 participants, assuming 4 photos per person that’s almost 64,000 photos. This seems to be a Herculean task. If the guru voting is handled the same way the participant voting then it must be almost impossible.

I vote quite frequently and seldom see any of the highly rated shots in my random selections.

Another question. Do you think there are too many contests running at the same time? Currently there are approximately 20 open contests. Would it make it easier to monitor the similar/not on topic entries if the number of contests was reduced to make the workload a bit easier? It would also ensure the same topics are not repeated too frequently.
