Sorry for the oh so quiet blog recently, I’ve had a busy couple of days:
- Arranging my visa for Bangladesh

- Shooting various markets and bits for stock

- Shooting Loy Krathong festival in Bangkok

- 23 hour train ride to Malaysia

So all that’s in the past and here’s one of my shots from the Loy Krathong festival, it wasn’t a festival I had planned to shoot, in fact I was unaware it even took place in Bangkok – I thought it only happened in Chang Mai, apparently not. Goes to show local knowledge is vital for things like this.

So Loy (meaning ‘to float’) Krathong (meaning ‘raft’). The rafts take 2 different forms the first being a water going raft made from banana plants and flowers, topped off with candles and incense and released into a local river. The second type (above) is the lantern type that when lit floats high above the city, this too is normally released near a waterway. The purpose is to pay respect to the goddess of water.
My experience of the event was a really beautiful and mellow family celebration, to see paper lanterns flying across a big city like Bangkok was amazing. I’m going to miss Bangkok but really looking forward to the challenges of Bangladesh.
