Kumbh Mela

The Kumbh Mela is one of the biggest human assemblies on the Earth. The mela (celebration) takes place every 3 years in one of 4 cities in India that are today known as Prayag (Allahabad, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nasik). Pilgrims spend days travelling across the country to bath in the river Ganges on auspicious dates throughout the festivities. The most sacred of visitor are the Hindu holy men (Sadhus). These colourful characters are said to spend most of there time living in the caves of the Himalayas mountain range, passing the time with meditation and self-reflection. They have no possessions and devote their lives entirely to their religion.
