Souls
Photographing people is one of the things I enjoy most about travelling. I’m interested in who I meet, how they respond to the camera and what we can communicate, even when we don’t share a language. A conversation, a smile or simply taking the time to introduce myself can make a real difference to the photograph.
I want people to feel comfortable and have a say in the encounter. I pay attention to their expression and body language, and try to keep the process straightforward so the camera doesn’t get in the way.
This collection brings together portraits made during my travels across Asia. Each comes from an encounter with someone who allowed me to photograph them. My aim is to convey something of their character and leave the viewer curious about the person looking back at them.
